Becky and her "grandpa situation"
Dear PLS,
I live with my grandpa and brothers...no aunts, mom, grandma...I just had my first visit from 'Aunt Flo' and don't know how to tell my Papa. We don't communicate very well...Anyway, this is the second time I asked.
Thanks PLS!
Becky, 12
OK, I think Becky should just tell her Papa that she needs a few "female items" or "personal items" at the store and could he give her some money for them. My guess is that he won't ask too many questions and will be like, "Sure, fine. Get what you need." Guys, especially an older guy, has been around for a while and he knows that girls of a certain age get periods. So, he'll probably know what's up or just figure Becky needs some girly thing and take her to the store.
If he says, "What do you need?" She could just say, "Some GIRL stuff." I bet he'll get the picture.
But just as important as getting supplies from the store, I think Becky should have someone she can talk to about girl stuff. A best friend, her best friend's mom, or her older sister? Or maybe she has an older cousin or a female neighbor that she's close with? Getting your period is a new thing and I know it would make me feel better to have someone who could answer some questions. Of course, Becky can always come to The Pink Locker Society, but a real live person is even better for this kinda thing.
And maybe Becky would really like to tell her grandfather? If that's the case, I'd just say something like, "I wanted to let you know I got my first period so I'll be needing some stuff from the store." But he's probably not going to be much help on the girly details, so I'd still look for a gal pal to help you with any questions that come up. I hope Becky will READ THIS to learn more about living with grandparents.
What else, Pink Locker girls? Any other good advice for Becky?
Think pink!
Jemma

i think u should be brave and tell him whats up he sould understand and when u some "gril things " he could help by carrying u there .
hey becky! wow real awkward situation! um...maybe like PLS said u could talk 2 1 of ur best friends mum's that u no really well or u could talk 2 ur grampa nd say u have experienced a sign of puberty/growing nd need some stuff 2 back it up. im pretty sure he will understand ur getting ur period nd give u money or take u 2 the store 2 bye some "things". really hope i helped nd that it wrks out ;)
When you and grandpa are alone, just quietly let him know. just say something like "do you mind if you lend me some money to buy some deodarent, etc.' and if you have to, let him know you need some pads too. just try and get the message to him by saying 'i just need some personal items from the chemist'
hope i helped:) good luck!
i think becky should adjust herself.first,in her environment.becky should also open up herself or communicate well to her brothers and grandpa.like, what she feels and what she need.becky should not be shy because those are her close peers.i mean that they're not strangers so becky should express her feelings and emotions.
I don't think I would say 'Girl stuff' because he may not get the picture, to him maybe girl stuff is a new unicorn plush toy (you know how men can be!) So use a more grown up term like 'Female items'. I hope this helps you Becky!
LOL! Men CAN be a little dim sometimes. Think pink!
Okay thanks everybody(and PLS!) It really helped a lot and I got the nessecities. Once again, thanks a lot!

I agree. Just find some female you know, a friend is always the best. Girl friends are usually the first to know if one of their friends got the first visit from "Aunt Flo".
Ohh! I just discovered the site today and to have Becky reply! OHHH! I'm so happy we all helped!
How about you tell him you need some feminine hygene. That's probably one of the best ways to put it so he'll definately understand. How about you ask your best friends mom or something next time.
Hope this helps
You could just say that you need to get some girl stuff at the store and i'm sure we won't ask too many questions. :) good luck!
ask your gramp to buy you a box of pads. simple as that. what is the worst thing that could happen? him saying no?? i don't think so. if you ever have questions about puberty, text your friends or something. seriously.
Cassie that is mean and you have never been in a situation like this obviously. It is not very encouraging...really...please be more understanding. And if you don't wanna say anything nice, don't say anything at all. :P---------------------AMY------------
if u say GIRL STUFF he wont ask any questions coz guys r scared of girl stufff.
lol they freak out
yea just go up to him and say
"papa i need some money to go to the shop and buy some GIRL STUFF" (those r the key words)
good luck!
You could always go on the internet and look things up if you dont want to talk to your papa about GIRL STUFF but you could just be brave or ask one of your close friends mother too. Cause there might be somethings that you will need to ask a woman for answer though. BE BRAVE GIRL!
Ohhhh that is sad you have no mom well you know what i would do is make friends with your friends mom and she could be like your second mother that might help
BE BRAVE you WILL live through it all!
good luck do well
hey girl, first chillax start a conversation with Papa then casually bring it up about the crimson tide he'll understand and give u money for supplies im wishing u luck and stay brave :D
your right Jemma, this time you r right.think pink!
i think Jemma is right but i dont know what i would do. because i didnt have my period yet and if anything i can tell my mom, cousin ,aunt, and more people. it is kind of hard for me too i am the middle child and i have 2 brothers.
little akward...say to ur papa,"can I go to the store with a friend?" If he says yes get some money and ask a close friend-maybe one who already had her first period-and her mom to go buy tampons with you.
i agree with jemma tell your grangpa that you need some girlie items but if it makes you feel better tell him like your talkin about make-up hehe.... ask 4 some weekly pocket money that should get you through it and wat eva is left maybe you can by stuff like make-up and that sorta stuff x
hey girl don't feel to OVERWHELMED about it ( sorry you don't any female in the house ) just relax and tell your grandpa that you need some girly supplies then he might get it. if you don't feel comfotable doing that find a woman that you know and tell her. so stay cool and " think pink "
oh becky, this is really an awkard situation...
i might help u.
just ask ur frnd or someone to go and get some pads 4 u....
make sure she has periods too..
and has a female livin with her..
i hope this might help
Well since your the only female in the house talk to one of your brothers that you can trust and tell him your going through puberty (he probaly is too and hopefully he knows about girls experiencing puberty) and you want him to take you to the store to get supplies he'll most likely understand if not talk to your grandpa or a older and more experienced female!
wll a bit of a problem it is. but say to him can you give me some money i am going to the drugstore.
Well this is a bit of a problem um well you should talk to him and read more girl mags
preferably the Mizz magazine and i don't know if you get the salt water girl?
well hope this really helps.
i think she should ask for money from her papa and if he what to know what for she sould tell him for "lady thing's"
Becky just tell him you need it for some personal things at the pharmacy. that's were my mom gets hers. Hope this helps. Think totally pink!
WOW Becky really tuff situation there um if u dont wanna tell ur grampa u got ur period then here is an option u can do:
When u go to the store with ur grandpa or whoever ask ur grandpa if u could have some money to buy some stuff. Go buy the stuff that u need and when he ask what u buy tell him that u bought girl stuff.
If u wanna tell ur grandpa about ur perid here is what u could do:
When u r ready and practice ur line to say to ur gramps come smooth and tell him slowly that u got ur fist period. Well Becky i hope these options helped u alot! Good Luck!!!!!
If i were in that situation, I would probably call up a friend and ask if she could go 2 the store with me (1 that already got her visit from Aunt Flo), or ask her if u could borrow some stuff from her until u CAN go to the store.
<3 love y'all, and hopethis helped u becky!!!! :)
My bestie is 13 and she has told me and helped with the period situation:)
ask your grandpa for some money and ask your bffs mom to take you to the store and that you have the money
you could always get some things from the nurse... but you can't depend on her forever
Hey girl He had a wife and already probably learned about it in school so, don't be afreaid he probably expects it! :)
I now it could be a little embarrising talking to guys about that but if you really need it it might be the right time to tell.If you dont want to say it out loud write it down its worth it if you need it.
