Late bloomer blues
Hello pink friends!
I know we've talked about this before, but I think it's worth bringing up again. Being the "late bloomer" can be hard. I know, I know, you early bloomers will say being the first one with boobs and a period etc. is hard, too. I'm sure that's true. But today, we're going to talk about the slower-growing girls out there. If you've read the book, you know I'm one of you!
Today's question is from someone who signed her email as "?" so I'm going to call her Question Girl. How appropriate because don't we all have so many questions about this stuff?
Dear PLS,
Hi PLS,
i love your book! I'm going into grade 7 and quite a few of my friends are starting to get their period, i know that a lot of girls still haven't got it but i feel so undeveloped, any advice?
Question Girl, 12
Number 1, I'd say that it's important to remember that periods happen in a wide stretch of time. Some girls are early, like 10, and other girls are later, like 15. It's normal, normal, normal that some girls will be later than others.
But what I think Question Girl is saying is that you still have to deal with being the lesser developed one every day. I know how you feel Question Girl. Some people might tease you about being a late bloomer. Even when they don't mean to hurt your feelings, sometimes they do. Also, no one likes feeling left out. If everyone is talking about "my period this and my period that," it's like you're not a member of their secret club.
But remember that you're part of this secret club, The Pink Locker Society, wink-wink. And also remember that you're always growing, little by little. Here's a fun activity that will prove it. Get out some photos of you over the years. Go from your cutie-pie baby stage, to preschool, to kindergarten and on up.
Pay special attention to the last few years. Do you have a different hairstyle now ? Maybe you've changed the kind of clothes you wear. And I bet you'll see that you've grown and changed quite a bit- even though you'd still like to change and grow even more.
Think pink all you late bloomers!

Hi QG,
Don't worry about it. I started my period only a month ago and I'm going into grade nine! Talk about late! It's doesn't matter when you get your period because everyone will have one eventually! lol
good luck!
No worries. Trust me, having your period isnt really fun. It's not horrible, its just kind of a pain to have to go to the bathroom all the time and change. Plus, its kind of uncomfortable. Dont worry, its not too bad though. :) hope i helped! no worries to all late bloomers :D
I'm 14 and will be 15 in 2 months. STILL NO PERIOD. Just be patient. I am. Enjoy your time without it, because once you get it, it's with you for quite some time. And I hear it's not worth looking forward to. My mom is jealous of me for not starting yet, I am basking with the time I have b4 i get it. Don't worry so much, have fun, and in no time I'm sure it will come.

I'm almost 15 and I started having my period only 3 weeks ago. So you're not alone! Enjoy you're time while you have it. It can be a real pain to have it! HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!
no worrys!my older sister is ALMOST 16 and she didnt get her period yet!you just have to wait for ur time.so do I!
it seems really unfair that us girls have to go through all this stuff, and boys have to deal with like nothing. my mom says that all babies start out girls and when girls change into boys brain develempment is delayed, so maybe thats why girls are more complex.
i know how u feel it takes forever 2 come but it will come so just wait and see it will just come out of no were any time soon.
Don't be scared! I'm going into the 7th grade too! All of my friends have their period too, I know how you feel! But we should be happy, because when we DO get our periods, we have to live with it for the rest of our lives! Hope this makes you feel better/ hope it helps =) .
Hmm, well, I got my period in the FIFTH GRADE! And that WASN'T fun. But NO ONE found out about it. But my Boobies are still small. I guess i have to wait?!
Well, think about it in the big picture of things. If you get it now, you will have until you are in your 50s. Talk about A LONG TIME!! enjoy the time you have now and cherish the day you get it. The first sentence into that big challenging adventure of womanhood. All begins with "."
hey i'm a late bloomer too i know it sucks because everyone make fun of u or you just feel like your not aparart of it
well,
i think there is nothing wrong with being a late bloomer i am and i am proud it is part of growing up it makes me fell older
well im about to enter eitgh grade and i still dont have my period and im a flatty mcflat chest but i dont worry about i mean like i want breasts and a period but im just going to be patient :)
Guess what i was on a trip with my family and... mother nature pops up with my period! I had no supplies, just those ultra thin pads, and i had to go to an amusement park! Not so amusing. I ended up putting lots of toilet paper and to my relief i survived. yep! i had my first period two weeks before that but i wasn't prepared because i thought it would arrive later! :( oh well at least my first period was during the summer on a friday night! what better time?! and i'm almost 15 so don't worry Question girl (lol) you still have lots of time and having you're period isn't THAT fun... you just have to constantly worry about knowing when your period will come... lol sounds fun, eh?
I hope this raised your spirits a little and that you'll be prepared (even when you go to an amusement park!!!) for mother nature to knock on you're front door!
:)
bye bye
H.L.
im qoinq to the 8 grade still no siqn and im 13 years old. still no worries i want it but people say im better of without it the pain l0l but eventually ever girl will get it no rush.
Hi
Most of my friends have larger breasts then me. One of them stuffed there bra so I feel kind of relived but. I'm already going through puberty I have everything else but not my period whats wrong with my pituatary gland. I'm really confused please anser me right away I'll be waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S I'm in the 6th
grade!
im in 7 th grade and im not even a size A all my friends have their periods and i dont. i feel so left out
all three of my bff's have their periods and i dont.sometimes i feel really left out and jealous. i dont like these feelings but i cant help it! why dosent my period just come!!!
Im nearly 12 i dont have a size but im in 7th grade and i dont have my period my mom still didnt get me a bra!!!! and im athletic just like my mom she got her period when she was 14 or 15 does that mean im gonna get mine when im 14 or 15 and does your hair curl when u have puberty
and am i a late bloomer
dont worry i am the onley one in my class with no boobs it stinks
Only me and my other really good friend haven't gotten ours yet. We stick together. There is probably someone else out there. Just ask around. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Girl with their periods are jealous that you don't have to deal with it.
i still dont have my period yet and i wish i get it soon and i think i will get it coz my breasts have started developing.i think we both sail in the same boat
I just turned 12 in the 7th grade. My bday was on the 25th and im the last to get my period besides my BFF in my gropup of friends but im the only one without boobs yet i feel so late and my little sister is a bigger size than me. Will i ever grow?
it's wierd feeling left out about a period but it's kinda not because i'm jealous because i don't have a period or boobs sometimes people call me flat chested but i think i'm getting there.i think boys just like girls for there body parts and not for who they are.i wish i had boobs or a period because it would make me feel more mature.it's sometimes scary to have a period because you could get pregnant easier.
im 15 and i have my period. trust me it's no fun. i am extremely tall and flat and often bullied by guys. But you know what? i am proud being my height and size because.
im a late bloomer also and I still haven't gotten mine. All I can think about is where im gonna get it and when.I really dont want to get my period at school not one bit! Also I dont know how im going to tell my mom.Just thinking about it makes me nervous.
i wear a 32 A bra and my guy friends say that i am flat and im like WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!! i havent started my period yet and im in 7th grade almost 13 so i dont know when im going to start mine so dont feel bad. read my story! its embarrassing!! my mom bought me 2 strapless bras and they keep sliding down in class in front of my crush at lunch!!!!!!!!!

i so understand - i'm in year 9 and still no period. also im still in training bras and my sis whos 2 years younger has a proper bra cos she needs it. it's so embarassing cos i think my sis will get 'a visit from aunt flo' before me. at first it bothered me, but now its like anyone who judges you on how fast you develop and how big your breasts are isn't worth knowing. its better that we stop worrying, chill and have fun.
i need yourhelp !!!! i want to have boobs but i dont all the other girls in myclass do and wear bras, but not me!!!! what do i do !!!! i want to ask my mom if i could, butthen when she says yes myolder brothers and sisiters are goingto be talkin bout it and every thing i also reallywant my period but i aso dont because im 10!!! i dont know if the girls in myclass have boobs, or its just fat.!!!!!help!!!!!
Yeah... I know how you feel, I'm flat too.Ask your mum for a bra. That way in the changing room no one can tell if your flat or not. Make sure your bra has pads though!
im in 3rdgrade my boobs are in ! its hard
I agree with question girl.My sister is 12 right?Well she has already started her period at 10 and she now has the boobs of a 20 year old + all that started at 10!!!!!!Well now I'm 10 and I have what my brother calls small ant hills(he is wierd) and I haven't started my period yet and everyone makes fun of me though!Even though I have hit puberty.:( Puberty sux if you haven't hit puberty you really don't want to start it really really reallllllllllyyyyyyy sux.You will get moody and really additoudie.I'm telling you now it is betterthat you tell someone when youdo start!
well...everyone's body is different!!-even compared to your mother or your sister's!!
I don't have my period yet either and i am 12 (in a few days!) Dont mind what people say about you-Just ignore them!!!
(puberty isn't that bad-its just a sign of growing up that's all!)

Hi I am in gr.7 and all my friends are in cup bras and everything and then here is me miss training bra when I barely even need that I am not looking forward to getting my period either so I don't really care about that...But in the summer when I just turned twelve one night my boobs were really hurting and they were really sensitive and I was so pumped I thought i was going to wake up with huge boobs ... but it is like 5 months later and still flat :( HELP ME
U r not alone I am kinda like that 2 my bestie has had it but I don't I feel undeveloped 2. BTW I am 13 and have like a training bra so don't worry!! U shudn't be worried
u r not alone me to. im 12 and i dont even wear bras yet. people make fun of me but i dont let it get to me. if people make fun of you you should tell your ma or your teacher and if your friends make fun of you then they are not your true friends at all!
OMG! I'm 10 and still don't have a training bra! HELP!! I'm afraid to ask my mom for one. She's only brung it up once or twice in my whole life. I would hate it if I were still 12 and didn't have one. I feel for you! HELP!!! :)
my bff got hers at her eleventh bday party she was so embarassed about but I had mine already so I was somewhat of a help
in my skool it's embarrasing 2 hav periods.lolx.cos' most of us r late bloomers=)in grade 6 tis year........
I'm 15, turning 16 in a few months and yet, I still haven't gotten mine. I've got boobs (but they're pretty small), and I have pubic hair, so i have started to develope. I don't understand why 7th and 6th graders are complaining that they feel left out. Ummm, hello! I'm in 10th grade. I'm 3 years older than you, and I still haven't gotten mine. Don't feel left out, yes, I'm the only one in my grade who has yet to get my period, and yes, everyone in my family thinks I'm anorexic because I'm so skinny, and yes, every single one of my friends ask me if I've started yet. Stop complaining. When you're my age and you haven't gotten yours, then you can complain.
dont worry about!!!im probably the same age as u and im going in to 7th also. i havent gotten mine yet either!!remember we all grow up n our bodies function in many different ways.ive just developed my boobs a month ago.u r not being left out. about 6 girls (including me) having gotten their period or developed boobs yet.just stay calm n remember not every girl has their period. probably about 7/10 girls still havent gotten their periods
im nine i dont have boobs or my period and my sister got both when she was nine ,and the rest of the in my class have boobs i feel really in secure and i have a boy friend i think he's not intersted what am sopose to do
Before you see that this comment is SUPPER LONG and skip it, please take in consideration that I NEED UR HELP. PLZ READ! If u have a kind heart and good advice, leave a comment responding to this. I think I'm in medium development. I have my period and I have good sized boobs. However, I don't shave yet. I know it's not a developmental thing, but I feel uncomfertable when i walk outside with hairy legs. I think about it 24-7!!!! All the girls in my class shave and they act like it's nothing! I'm seriously the only one. Some people have told me to talk to my mom. I CAN'T. Way too embarassing. I need help!!! PLZ write me I'll check back in 2 days!
heres a respond 4 the anonymous girl who needs some help thats ryt above this comment: dont worry about!!!it doesnt really matter if u dont shave!n i agree wid the other people who told u to talk wid ur mom about it. u should, cuz ur mom was exactly the same age as u now at one point of her life.she will understand about u wanting to shave.im 12, turning 13 in 5 months n i dont really care to shave. n i have some hair on my legs but no pubic hair yet.i wear shorts or skirts all the time n idc if i show my kinda hairy legs!! dont sweat, if u really REALLY want to shave, talk to ur mom about it!!!!
p.s. hope my advice to u will help!!good luck!!please let me know the results of wat i told u.hope evrything goes well!!
i am also going into 7th grade n i dont have my period yet. i just started developing breasts. i dont use training bras but i use sports bras( do those count as training bras?idk or s). just hang in there girl!! not evryone has their period at ur age. remember evryone developes in their separate ways. i am guessing i will get my period next year wen im 14 yrs. u may never know, u will get ur period next year. just be patient!!!

so short 146 cms
and no period yikes
