Prep Time: 1 hour, then chill overnight

What you need:
2 cups sugar   ½ cup milk
1 stick of butter   1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups old-fashioned oats   3 tablespoons peanut butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa (dark chocolate cocoa works well)

Equipment and supplies:
Measuring cups and spoons   Large spoon for stirring
Large pot   Wax paper
Cookie sheet

What to Do:
1. Combine sugar, milk, butter, peanut butter, and cocoa in a large pot on the stove.
2. Bring to a boil and let boil for 90 seconds. (Ask an adult’s help with the stovetop tasks.)
3. Remove from heat.
4. Stir in oats and vanilla.
5. Beat thoroughly with a hand-held electric beater. (The large oats should break down into smaller bits.)
6. Cover a cookie sheet with waxed paper.
7. Spread mixture evenly on the covered pan – not too thin.
8. Chill overnight and cut into squares.

How much does this recipe make?
About 48 small squares
